My birthday challenge in Steve Edwards' honor is to perform, live in front of a crowd, 50 songs and raise $50 for charity by Steve's 50th on November 22, 2010.

There will easily be 50 drinks pounded by then too.

Challenge Report:
We busted out the 'Rustbucket Jam for Birthday Challenge' in honor of Steve's Birthday; the challenge was to sing/play 50 songs live in public, drink 50 beers and donate $50. There were plenty other 50 references but to keep it simple, here is the set list and why these songs have anything to do with the man of honor at all:

Fortunate Son (OBVIOUS)
Born On The Bayou (Cuz it grooves nicely into the next two... and uses the word 'Hoodoo')
Green Eyed Lady (I think that's you, Lisa... child of nature, and all that)
Suzie Q (well that bodes back to my girl, who Steve has known since the first)
Message In A Bottle (pick a bottle, any bottle, and it has a story to tell about Steve)
Driven To Tears (mostly through laughter)
Walking On The Moon (not sure...but it probably has something to do with Josh)
All I Want Is To Be Next To You (Well that one is pretty clearly Romney-related)
Fire (dedicated to Phillip, my son, during the gig, this one truly speaks to Steve's endless, stainless motivation to train and be the best he can be)
Little Wing (Butterflies, Zebras and Moonbeams, and Fairy Tales all make me think of Edwards)
Wind Cries Mary (I have no idea)
Red House (That would be UTAH)
Between The Lines (since there 'ain't no magic pen, to get back what you lost', Steve seizes the day, every day)
In The Name Of Love (Steve has always supported civil rights leaders' plights, though he liveth in the land of )
Bullet The Blue Sky (I think the name of a climb in Owens we did)
Paradise Riviera (Best possible new name for the SLC place, with the new bar and all)
Alive (I'm Still Alive... a daily mantra for all the death defiance in Steve's life(s))
Better Man (Maybe there just ain't one...)
You Wreck Me (He's the boy, in the corduroy pants, you're the girl at the high school dance)
Mary Jane's Last Dance (Not sure Steve every really danced with her anyway)
Listen To Her Heart (And she did)
American Girl (Lisa)
La Grange (Stainless? Never...)
Heard It On The X (or 'the Hex')
Folsom Prison Blues (Just a great song about a train, and Steve always supported public transportation)
Born Under A Bad Sign (Just to balance out that 'fortunate son' thing)
What's So Funny About Peace Love and Understanding (Maybe the best Steve song in the bunch)
Thank You Falettinmebemicelfagin (You can Make It If You Try)
Repo Man (the guy's name is Ray LaMontagne, which was enough to include it)
Rice A Roni (instrumental original)
Quasimodo (instrumental original)
All Hat No Cattle (instrumental original)
When I'm 64 (50 is next to 64)
God Only Knows (Beach Boys original, we hacked it but such a beautiful song about long relationships)
Gringo Honeymoon (Starts out on a mountaintop, ode to Brian 'Bronco' Edwards)
Happy Anniversary (Flintstones version, for comic relief)
White Freightliner (Lord I'm gonna ramble, till I get from where I came...)
Rooftop Rhapsody (original Bruce White song about singing from the rooftops... like Romney in the Canyonlands)
Red Tailed Hawk (Steve always loved wildlife)
Down In Mexico (if his bike could talk)
Ride (People, get ready, to Riiiiide... )
Norwegian Wood (from the days when the only climbing training was on wood holds glued up in the UCLA Co-op)
Dear Prudence (No idea but it was getting late)
Happy Birthday (Duh. Beatles version)
Sweet Talkin Liar (Steve's lament to all the other women he thought had something to offer)
Venus (The Goddess On The Mountaintop... guess who?)
Paradise (Prine, always a smart songwriter... about death and dying)
Flag Decal (those darn 'patriot' types... their flag decals won't get them into heaven anymore)
I Like Trains (has the word 'caboose')
The L&N (yet another train song... back to the public transportation option)

Very cool and honoring and all that! Hey, when I lived with you my bike team was La Grange, so there is some serendipity involved here as well.
